I have discovered that I am most comfortable writing in places that I’m not too comfortable.  When I get too familiar with a space, it gets knotted up with established habits, and it becomes a less effective place to work for me—especially if those habits are bad.

I write best late at night, when the world gets quiet and there’s less life going on to distract me.  Which is a bit problematic, because it really mucks up my sleep schedule (I do best if I get up before noon, so staying up till 4 am becomes messy).

As for what I write on…heh.  So, I predate computers?  Pencil and paper were pretty much my only option till I was 15.  And yet, it was never a tremendously effective way for me to write.  I thought too fast to be able to keep up with myself.  Getting a computer made a huge difference.  Then I fell out of practice with fiction writing for many years.  Now that I’ve taken it up again, I’m getting into the craft of it in a way I never did before, and oddly, pen and a notepad are becoming a valuable tool for me.  Sometimes I can write on paper when I can’t on computer, and I always keep a notepad in my bag so that I can scribble scenes and things if I’m out at lunch or something.
