We hate ourselves because we build standards to weigh ourselves against that are based on observation.  But observation only shows you the end point.  You can’t see the journey made to get there.

So use the internet for this.  Go out and research the people you admire.  Find their stories and read about the blood and pain and sweat and tears they paid out, the guilt and shame and grief they experienced to achieve what you admire them for.  Come to understand that they’re like you and me after all, and that doesn’t diminish them; it elevates you.  It’s the standards you weigh yourself against that are flawed, not you.
