Well, except that I’ve seen books and articles from other psychologists arguing that sociopathy and psychopathy aren’t the same thing. It seems to be an issue that the scientific community is not in agreement on.
But either way, Sherlock isn’t either of those things. Because he does care about people. We see him caring about John, we see him caring about Mrs. Hudson, we watch him feeling bad about humiliating Molly at the Christmas party (perhaps the most telling, because this isn’t someone who’s ‘his,’ he just feels bad for hurting her), and he’s even not real happy with Moriarty about blowing up random old women just to get his attention.
He’s not a sociopath. He’s just a dick.
Except when you want him to be a sociopath in your fanfic, of course. Fair game, there.
