It occurs to me that many younger or less sci-fi-steeped individuals have probably not heard of Philip Jose Farmer and his Wold Newton family trees.

The short version is that in 1973, the venerated if somewhat slap-happy sci-fi author Philip Jose Farmer decided to chart out how every fictional character ever was either related, or else had met each other, and then write stories about it.

Here is the website.  In short, if you hate crossovers, then I’m sorry, you’re too late.  If, on the other hand, you enjoy crack, this makes all of Tumblr put together look like amateur hour.

Below are the family trees he charted out.  As you will see, James Bond is related to Doc Savage, Sherlock Holmes, Tarzan, the Lone Ranger, the Scarlet Pimpernel, Nero Wolfe, Auguste Dupin, Sam Spade, Captain Blood, and Alan Quatermain.  Possibly also to Conan the Barbarian and Dracula (evidence remains inconclusive).
