There is an outside chance it could end up happy, but that would only happen if Sherlock and Mycroft both had a spiritual awakening to what gigantic pricks they’re being, and learned how to temper their massive egos a bit.

And I think they could only achieve that if John decided to sink to lows beyond those the Holmes brothers were willing to go.

He might, though.  He’s so volcanically pissed off at both of them in that fic. He blames Sherlock just as much, you know.  I mean Mycroft’s being the obvious douche in that scene, but Sherlock’s refusal to exercise some common decency is what put them there.
