Also, Hope’s death really was defense of life. John really did potentially save Sherlock’s life there (assuming Sherlock chose the wrong pill, and also note that John got there too late to see anything except that Hope had somehow coerced Sherlock into taking what John could reasonably—and accurately—conclude was poison). That wasn’t murder or even manslaughter.
It is one of my favorite AU headcanons, though. I do have a fondness for crazy men in stories. ^_^
