Sherlock also told John that he tried to contact John numerous times. Does that not count for even a tiny something? He didn’t just forget John. John didn’t suddenly become unimportant. The fact is…we don’t know any truth about what happened. Unless you take what Sherlock says at face value. Which is pretty foolish in itself.

Nobody’s saying anything about Sherlock forgetting him or not caring about him. It’s important to uncouple that from the issue of Sherlock causing John pain. It’s absolutely possible to do terrible damage to people you love. It’s even possible to do terrible damage to people you love without ever meaning to.
