The thing about renovating intellectual property law is that piracy widespread piracy is probably the single biggest motivating force.  The big corporations that own and protect these rights have a great deal of investment in keeping the system the way it is…unless the system isn’t working for them either.

It just boggles my mind how much money they’ve spent in the last 10 years attempting to maintain the already failed status quo, when they could have spent far less time and effort putting their heads together and coming up with a more functional set of laws.
