Big fan. Quick question. Any hope of addressing not only transgender perspectives, but also genetic intersexes, chimeras, and mosaics, in a sci-fi context? For example, Claire Ainsworth has a great article at Nature, titled “Sex Redefined”, on how incredibly complex the subject is just for us humans (who don’t even have alt modes!). I’d love to see Cybertronians address the possibility that they might be male in one mode and female in another, or indeed, that they are ALL female, to some extent.

Interesting idea (I’ll look up that article) and one I’ve already been wondering myself. For example, if you have a mix-gender combiner, what pronouns would they use? How would they think of themselves? It’s definitely something that has a lot of potential in transformers. The trick is always page-space. Since I only have so much room in any given issue my goal has been (and continues to be) to open as many “doors” in transformers as I can — hence the addition of new colony worlds like Caminus. My hope is that even if I don’t explore any one issue in-depth (and I’ll never be as in depth as some fans will want. I regularly get asked to draw diagrams in my books and that isn’t going to happen), the foundation will be there for whoever else wants to explore it.
