For the simplest of reasons. He is in denial.
I mean. You can’t hate someone very effectively if they’re dead, right? Yeah. That’s the ticket.
I do still need to write the sequel that actually takes a look at their relationship post-disaster and how things stand now. But tl;dr: None of it would hurt so much if they could just stop loving each other, but they don’t get to have it that easy.
