It should be known that it was not previously confirmed that Mercy was the one who made Gabriel Reyes into Reaper. I’m seeing a lot of people referencing a pair of voice lines – voice lines I myself once thought were real – but the voice line where Reaper outright accuses Mercy of making him into what he is do not exist.
The “voice lines” in question are:
Mercy: This is not what I intended for you, Reyes.
Reaper: You knew exactly what you were doing.
They aren’t real. They don’t exist. They were never in the game in any shape, form, or fashion. You won’t find audio of them anywhere.
Listen. I’m not trying to defend Mercy or anything, because honestly I don’t like her very much myself. But the misinformation floating around that Mercy and Reaper have this exchange and therefore Mercy made Gabe into Reaper is causing a lot of hostility and toxicity and it needs to be cleared up. They aren’t retconning Mercy’s involvement to save her image or anything. Moira’s origin short really is the first time we’ve heard about how Gabriel got his powers. Anything other than that has just been widely-accepted fanon. And that’s fine, I guess, just don’t pass it off as canon and get on Blizzard’s case about it and start fights with people on the internet over it.
