There’s a mourning dove nest on my back porch. I’ve been fretting over it for three weeks now, because the female settled in with her mate originally, but then he got run off by another dove who’d claimed the back yard for his territory. So the female’s been single momming it. I’ve been keeping my feeders and bird bath topped off to make sure she didn’t have to go too far for food.

I was worried that I’d stress her out, but she seems to have very little concern for me. In fact, last week when I came up onto the deck, I found her in alarm posture, till she saw it was me and then she settled right back down.

And then this week…BABIES. They’re growing so fast. I can see them from the living room, so I keep spying on them, whenever they start waggling for food or flapping to exercise their wings.

Today while I worked in the garden, they were watching me. And now that I’ve come inside, they’ve turned around to watch me through the back window. Tiny fluffy creepers.
