Hmmmm I have had a moment of unwelcome self-awareness about my writing. This epiphany was that one of my driving motivations is the satisfaction and accomplished feeling of having finished the story. As a corollary, the reason I almost always abandon anything longer than 6,000 words is because the reward of satisfaction is too far off to motivate me.
