If asked, he would have described what he was feeling as ‘content.’ He wasn’t sure if he had ever been content before. Normally the world was so busy or irritating or full of data that his mind was awhirl; sitting in peaceful stillness was foreign to him. But here he was, kneeling at John’s feet, one corner of his mind full of the case while the rest sat idle, enjoying the warmth of John’s thigh beneath his cheek. Too bad the case would be over soon. It would be nice to feel this way more often.
