It’s the theory that the show’s creators are in fact planning to pair up Sherlock and John by the end of the series, and everything that seems to point toward the contrary is actually them deliberately throwing shade on their plan so that it will surprise people when it happens.
My personal opinion is that while I would love it if such a thing happened, I’ll be shocked if it actually does.
