I think Will is so far down into Hannibal’s mind that he can’t find where he begins and starts unless Hannibal’s there for him to be able to pick out his own boundaries.
No, even more than that. He recreated himself for Hannibal. That’s how he tried to catch him: by making himself into the Will Graham Hannibal wanted him to be. Except that was so dangerous, because that was a Will Graham he actually had the potential to be. And so he became it, and now he can’t unbecome it. And now he’s a new person he doesn’t entirely know.
But Hannibal knows him. Hannibal knows him inside and out. And so when Hannibal is there, Will can see himself through Hannibal’s eyes. And then he knows what to do.
