redemption arcs are so important. any time I see guilt represented in media it’s a character feeling guilty for something that was out of their control (i.e. survivor’s guilt) but. sometimes the main character (you) really does something bad or makes a tragic mistake and when that happens the guilt can be absolutely debilitating.

it’s debilitating because guilt is only the first step in a long, long process of growth as a person, and only showing the type of guilt that isn’t actually deserved tells people that it stops there. it doesn’t allow for admission and forgiveness and growth.

which is why I’d like to see more characters that genuinely Fuck Up and I want to see them work through the consequences.
