Well, it’s just speculation, but it could be!
I’ve seen a lot of argument back and forth on this idea, mostly having to do with the smoky stuff. A few thoughts on that front:
1: There’s no mention whether Reaper displayed the wraith abilities prior to the fall of Overwatch. Could be he didn’t have them then.
2: There’s no mention of when Gabriel got those abilities. We just assume it happened after the fall of Overwatch.
3: There’s also no mention of whether those abilities are in fact nanite-related. That’s a sensible fan theory, but it’s still just a fan theory.
In fact, I float you this alternate theory, although I make no claims of how convincing I find it myself. What if Gabriel’s had the wraith abilities ever since SEP? What if those are his enhancement? By way of admittedly extremely thin evidence, I note that neither Jack nor Ana show any surprise about him wraithing around in the Old Soldiers comic, even if Ana does seem shocked by what she sees under the mask.
