Wow, gosh. I’m not really a music-focused person. I know what I like—though I often can’t describe it—but I tend not to be able to name a song or band unless I already know the song very well. BUT. I am very fond of David Bowie. There’s a band called Apocalyptica which is actually made up for three guys who play heavy metal on cello, which is about as awesome as you can get. I also like a lot of Depeche Mode—especially stuff from around the time of their Black Celebration album, when they were messing around with songs whose instrumentals were actually percussive industrial sounds and that kind of thing.
I do have a huge thing—practically a music kink!—for any sort of fusion between classical and modern, including things like modern classical-style compositions that incorporate a heavy, modern rhythm line or using classical instruments like strings or piano in a metal song, or something like TransSiberian Orchestra playing “Hall of the Mountain King.”
