Jon doesn’t trust Sherlock anymore – he insists on a drug screen without even asking what he used.
I don’t think John would ever have trusted Sherlock to answer that question. Don’t forget that John has long had a fine understanding of the level of bullshit that can come out of Sherlock’s mouth.
Having faith in Sherlock Holmes is one thing. Buying into the crap he talks is a whole different thing.
